Two people, a lot of yarn, and a weakness for tiny cats
Kitty & Yarn started in 2021 as a shared notebook between two friends who kept texting each other stitch counts at midnight. It has since turned into the reference we wish we'd had when we made our first lopsided amigurumi cat.
How it began
Mina learned to crochet from her grandmother, who made blankets and had no patience for anything smaller than a cushion. Sofie learned from videos during a long winter and went straight to the smallest thing she could find: a two-inch cat with a bow. The first one took four hours, had uneven ears and lost an eye within a week. It is still on her keys.
What kept us going was how quickly the craft rewards attention. Move the eyes half a stitch and the expression changes completely. Swap acrylic for cotton and the piece holds its shape for years instead of months. Those small discoveries were scattered across group chats and scrap paper, so in 2023 we started writing them down properly.
What we make
Everything on this site is built around one deceptively simple object: a miniature crochet cat, finished with a ring so it can be carried. We test palettes, refine face placement, try new hardware, and photograph the results on the same cream linen so you can compare them honestly. Then we write up what worked.
What we believe
Slow over fast
We never rush a pattern into a post. Every tutorial here has been worked at least three times, twice by someone who had not seen it before.
Honest about difficulty
If a design is fiddly, we say so. Nothing puts a beginner off faster than a project described as easy that quietly is not.
Materials that last
We favour cotton, firm stuffing and reinforced hardware, because a keychain lives a hard life on a set of keys.

Amigurumi is a shared craft. When a technique comes from another maker's work, we name them.
